Shaun White has not yet qualified for Beijing 2022

The names of the US Olympic ski and snowboard teams are slowly coming out. Although few names have been announced, Shaun White is still among them.

White put in an impressive performance in qualifying but decided against the final due to an ankle problem. White wasn’t in his A game. He knew it would be risky to perform.

However, he still has a chance to make the team. Shaun White is currently the third-placed American in the sport. And so far only two names have been announced. In addition, the team will not be finalized until January 21st.

So there’s a pretty good chance that White will actually become the official team, provided he keeps his 3rd place.

The coaches will select the next round of athletes based on points and several other factors. US Olympic ski and snowboard head coach Mike Jankowski hopes White will make the team.

“He hopes that the place where he is now will remain stable and that he can get the nomination for the team,” said the coach.

In the meantime, Shaun White will keep working hard and getting better and better. White had previously tested positive for Covid and is recovering from it.

Beijing 2022 will be the last Olympic Games for white

If Shaun White manages to qualify for the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022, it will be his last. White previously announced that he will no longer compete at the Olympic level afterwards.

“I didn’t really say that much, so it will feel weird when it comes out of my mouth – but I think this will be my last run,” said the 35-year-old snowboarder.

White admitted that it is indeed not easy to talk about.

“It’s hard to talk about because all my life I’ve been viewed as a little superhuman for doing these things.”
