Islay Watson won silver in the event that will make its Olympic debut in Paris in 2024
The Briton Islay Watson won a silver medal in wind foiling at the iQFoil European Championships in Marseille.
Windfoiling will make its Olympic debut at the 2024 Paris Games when it is played in the same waters in southern France.
The 21-year-old Scottish woman Watson started second in the women’s medal race and was able to maintain her position.
“I’m tired and it was very stressful, but I’m glad I managed to hold onto a medal,” said Watson.
“Conditions were very up and down all week and I feel like everyone had some good days and others a nightmare.
“I’m just happy to put together a good regatta and come out well in the end.”
Finn Hawkins, 19, meanwhile also won a silver medal because he finished 15th overall as the second best male U21 participant.
“I’m happy to be a silver medalist. It’s been a really tough week of racing. I’ve had some good results and some bad,” said Hawkins.
