Intel’s flagship Arc Alchemist GPU poses for the camera



Rumor mill: An early copy of Intel’s flagship Arc Alchemist GPU was photographed. It’s unclear whether Intel plans to sell this reference design or made it for testing purposes, but it’s still a good eye-catcher and an interesting insight into how the GPU was evolving.

If you’ve followed the Arc Alchemist leaks, the photos may look familiar. The YouTuber who posted it, Moore’s Law Is Dead, also posted photos of an earlier prototype a few months ago, which was a similar shape but had a black sheath and a green circuit board. The design is also similar to the DG1 SDV, which is something of a precursor to the Arc Alchemist series.

Moore’s Law Is Dead says the photos are from a reliable source who has worked with him for a long time. Although Moore’s Law Is Dead sometimes misrepresents product specifications, most of the photos he posts are accurate.

According to its source, the photos are Intel’s 512 EU model, which was first leaked over two years ago. Recent rumors suggest that it could function similarly to the Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti and AMD RX 6800.

There are two fans on the front of the card that push air through black metal ribs onto the PCB and down through the vents on the back, which is all standard. The card is slightly taller than its mounting bracket, which means it complies with the full-width and full-height PCIe specification.

There is an 8-pin and a 6-pin power connector on the side of the card. Together they can deliver up to 225 W. It could draw an additional 75W from the motherboard if needed, but that’s rare with power-connected GPUs.

Moore’s Law Is Dead also claims to have seen photos of the entry-level Arc Alchemist GPU at 128 EU. He produced the rough renders below.

The card is said to have a TDP of less than 75W and therefore draws all of its power from the motherboard. It’s also rumored to be about as fast as a GTX 1660 Ti.

Intel is unlikely to launch its Arc Alchemist GPUs until early next year, possibly in February. But they are already busy creating excitement with competitions and demos of their new supersampling technology XeSS.
