Congressional investigators prepare to seek testimony from John Eastman, the attorney who devised a legal strategy to help Donald Trump overturn the January 6th 2020 election results, a House aide confirmed Tuesday evening.

January 6th special committee chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) Told the Washington Post Tuesday that he was awaiting a subpoena from Eastman, although the adviser insisted the Claremont Institute attorney might avoid submitting a subpoena when he cooperated voluntarily.

Following Trump’s electoral defeat, Eastman helped the outgoing president devise a legal strategy that consisted of asking the Supreme Court to intervene in the election and to reject the four states’ votes that led Joe Biden to his electoral college victory. When that attempt failed, Eastman devised a strategy to convince then-Vice President Mike Pence to publish the election results himself.
