Transcript via CBS’s Face The Nation:

MARGARET BRENNAN: You said this week that you want to know who financed the march, who chartered the buses, who chartered the planes that day. Do you still have questions about finances?

REP. THOMPSON: Yes we do. We have one of the teams on the committee whose sole purpose is to investigate the January 6th funding, the people who have spent money, be it their money or other people‚Äôs money. It really doesn’t matter, but we want that to come to the work product or the scrap. We think there might be the potential for the pooling of limited funds for this purpose, but of course we will look at that. It’s just interesting to note that many people came to Washington by bus, plane, or chartered vehicle. They stayed in hotels, motels, all that. Somebody had to pay for it. And we want to see if they are paying to be legal and whether or not they contributed to what happened on January 6th.

It was previously reported that the committee was investigating potential funding from foreign governments and domestic terrorists.

Illegal funding opens the door to further criminal charges.

If the committee finds evidence of illegal funding, it opens the door to further criminal referrals and charges. Given Trump’s history of campaign finance violations, bankruptcies, and general misuse of funds, it is very likely that the committee’s investigation into funding will uncover some financial crimes.

The illicit use of funds could lead to more criminal transfers for Trump employees. The 1/6 committee leaves no stone unturned and really pursues the money.
