AT&T lets you play Batman: Arkham Knight for free through the white label Stadia partnership

What just happened The Google service Stadia didn’t get off to the best start, but has now found a niche in the gaming market. Its users appreciate the ability to play high-fidelity games at a high frame rate at the touch of a button and without sacrificing performance. The possible uses of Stadia go far beyond the Google customer relationship – now the company is offering its technology under the hood to the telecommunications giant AT&T as a “white label” product.

White labeling refers to a business strategy some companies employ of purchasing goods made by another company and renaming them as if they were made in-house. This practice can be shady and even illegal under certain circumstances, but in the case of AT & T’s Stadia use, it is completely excessive.

Speaking to AT&T and Google, IGN confirmed that the companies have reached some kind of closed-door agreement: Google is letting AT&T use its technology to power the telecommunications company’s latest offering. This offer happens to be “free” access to Batman: Arkham Knight, an action-adventure title set in the Batman universe.

It’s the newest entry in the Arkham line of games, all of which feature pretty similar gameplay, albeit with minor tweaks and additions. For example, Knight lets you control the Batmobile and was first released in 2015.

To take advantage of the AT&T offer, you need an active AT&T Wireless subscription. Since I’m using a different provider, I can’t test how it works myself, but it seems pretty straightforward. Simply visit this page, enter your AT&T WiFi number and zip code, successfully perform a CAPTCHA and hit the “Enter Now” button.

What happens after that is a guess. I am assuming that you will receive some kind of verification code that you may have to enter on a subsequent page. Unless AT&T made any changes to Stadia, you should be able to start the game with one click. However, you need to use Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.

I have no idea how to save money here, nor do I know how long this little bonus offer will last. It’s an odd marketing gimmick, and I have some doubts about its potential effectiveness. I think the average AT&T customer isn’t necessarily a gamer; at least not the guy who’d be hooked on something as admittedly complicated (for brand new players) as Arkham, Knight. But maybe the accessibility of Stadia streaming will attract some potential subscribers to long-term contracts with AT&T?
