There will be kitefoiling competitions for men and women at the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024
Brit Ellie Aldridge won silver at the Formula Kite World Championships in Sardinia, Italy in 2021.
Kitefoiling – using a kite sail to propel a board through the water with a hydrofoil – will celebrate its Olympic premiere at the 2024 Games in Paris.
“It feels pretty good to be second,” said Aldridge, 24, two-time European champion.
“I was very lucky to qualify as second in the final because the winds on the day of the final were crazy.”
The American Daniela Moroz became world champion for the fifth time in a row, while the French Lauriane Nolot completed the podium in third.
Aldridge added, “It’s been a full week with winds coming from almost all directions so we definitely had the variety you want at a World Cup.
“Unfortunately I didn’t do enough this time to take the title away from Daniela, but I got a few bullets from her, that will make me happy until next year.”
She was one of three British riders to make it through the qualifying series, with teammates Maddy Anderson and Katie Dabson finishing 10th and 13th, respectively.
