The Minecraft 1.18 release date is approaching, although Mojang’s developers still have some wiggle room on the exact date. Nevertheless, they limit the start of Caves and Cliffs to the next “one or two months”, as the update is “almost finished” according to a presentation on Minecraft Live.

It is planned to release the update for Bedrock and Java editions at the same time (both of which will be released for Xbox Game Pass for PC, by the way). The two versions now also have seed parity, which means you can see your favorite Minecraft seeds rendered almost identically in both versions of the game, except for a few minor details.

You don’t have to worry about your old worlds either, even with all the changes that the new world generation will bring. Your 1.17 worlds are transferred to 1.18 without any problems. Terrain blending ensures that old and new content blend in naturally, and you will find the deeper cave systems also automatically generated under all of your previously explored areas.

You can check out the presentation for yourself below, starting at the 51:53 mark.

One reason this update is actually being released on time is that again part of it has been delayed. Next year’s update, The Wild, will include features like Deep Dark and Minecraft Warden.
