The American fantasy drama Game of Thrones, based on Goerge RR Martin’s book A Song of Ice and Fire, ended in 2019, but the show’s popularity with audiences has not yet waned. Several reviewers and publications have claimed that the show is one of the best television series ever.

Many don’t know that the original pilot of the hit TV series was filmed in 2009, but it seems so unusable that it had to be disposed of. A handful of the show’s original cast members have reportedly been re-cast. These included Tamzin Merchant as Daenerys Targaryen and Jennifer Ehle as Catelyn Stark.

Interestingly, another familiar face was also included in the unreleased pilot. It was none other than the author George RR Martin. According to SYFY, the acclaimed writer, who also served as the producer and consultant for Game of Thrones, announced that he played a tiny role in the very first episode of the series.

Martin said, “I made a cameo in the original pilot that was shot in Morocco. I was a pentoshi nobleman and one of the guests at Dany’s wedding to Khal Drogo. However, we later re-cast the role of Dany. So the entire wedding sequence was edited in Morocco and my brilliant cameo stayed on the floor of the editing room. “

While the first episode of the HBO series didn’t see the light of day, George RR Martin also had plans for another cameo on the series. He explained that Game of Thrones co-creators David Benioff and DB Weiss “would at one point put my severed head on a spit, but then they got the offer for what it would cost. These severed heads are expensive and our budget is tight! So if I don’t provide my own, I won’t become a severed head! “
