“Realistic” chance, Trump and Pence summoned to January 6th committee

The Political Insider

Rep. Adam Kinzinger believes there is a “realistic” chance that the House Special Committee investigating the January 6th Capitol riot will summon former President Donald Trump and former Vice President Mike Pence.

Kinzinger made a statement on Thursday in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

“Your colleague, Chairman Bennie Thompson, has not ruled out a subpoena on behalf of former President Trump. Cooper asked.

“Yes, I’m sure that’s realistic,” replied Kinzinger (R-IL). “I mean, we’re not going to do that right now because that’s big, of course.”

Trump and Pence subpoenas?

Kinzinger’s prediction that Trump and Pence might see subpoenas comes as controversy over former president aides willing to defy committee orders in their individual circumstances.

Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon failed to show up for a scheduled dismissal Thursday, prompting the committee to seek a criminal referral.

Kinzinger is one of two Republicans on the committee; MP Liz Cheney (R-WY) is the other. Both are die-hard “Never Trump” Republicans.

Cheney had told reporters from the US Capitol, “Generally people have to show up or we will bring charges of contempt.”

It would be interesting to see what would happen if the committee summoned Trump and Pence. If Bannon will defy the committee, you know that Trump, who has already spoken of “executive privileges” in this case, would do the same.

Cheney and Kinzinger no doubt openly dream of filing a criminal complaint on behalf of the former president.

“It’s realistic,” Kinzinger said on CNN about a January 6 subpoena to Trump for the investigation. Says that they will not do this right away, but that they are “determined to know the truth”.

Kinzinger the clown

Kinzinger went on in his interview with Cooper that he was simply interested in knowing the truth, something that was really on the priority list of the House Selection Committee.

He also warned anyone – including Trump and Pence – who might consider opposing the committee’s subpoenas now or in the future.

“We are determined to get to the bottom of what was going on,” he said, pretending that he and his colleagues had not yet come to a conclusion.

“Hopefully if people misinterpret something else, they are interpreting this. We mean business, ”explained Kinzinger. “Anyone who is either being summoned now or will be summoned in the future – think twice before opposing a lawful order from Congress.”

Perhaps his threats would be taken more seriously if he did not turn into a pale John Boehner at the first memory of a tense confrontation at a largely peaceful rally on Jan. 6.

Side note – He’s building on his credentials as a GOP version of AOC – dreary, motivated to crush Trump with every word and every act, but with a little more estrogen behind his theatricality – Kinzinger took to Twitter to suggest that “Satan” Pro-Trump’s fundraisers.

Isn’t that special?

Kinzinger added that he and the committee “will prove once and for all that it” [January 6th] was not peaceful and frankly said that this wasn’t just anyone, but really a Trump-inspired insurrection. “

See what I mean by that conclusion has already been reached?

Trump responded on Thursday in a statement to the threats with criminal reprimands for his former employees.

“The January 6th unelected committee, made up of radical left Democrats and some horrific RINO Republicans, tries to criminally despise people for things related to the protest when they should see themselves in criminal despise,” he said.

“They are using prosecutors and prosecutors to destroy more than half of this country, and the people will not take it!” Added Trump.
