Elinor Barker followed her Olympic gold in the women’s team in Rio 2016 with silver in Tokyo
Elinor Barker announced that she was expecting her first child and was pregnant when she won silver at the Tokyo Olympics.
The 27-year-old from Cardiff was part of Britain’s women’s team pursuit team, the won a medal in August.
Barker announced her news on Tuesday on Twitter, saying she and her partner are “so excited to begin the next part of our lives together”.
She added on Instagram that “yes, I was pregnant at the Tokyo Olympics”.
Barker’s good news is even more special when she revealed in 2019 that she suffered from endometriosis, a condition that can cause pain, heavy periods, and fatigue.
The condition affects about one in ten women of childbearing age and can also make conception difficult.
