In a recent interview, British Olympic diver Tom Daley announced that he had been secretly hospitalized after contracting the coronavirus.
Daley was transported to a hospital by ambulance seven months before his medal in the Tokyo Summer Olympics.
“[My] Lungs felt pressured like they had bags of rice around them, ”he told the Times.
“Every time I got up I felt the room spin and a blinding white light like I was passing out and like I couldn’t get enough oxygen into my body,” he said.
Daley and husband D. Lance Black, a screenwriter, are raising their three-year-old son Robbie.
The Times reported that Daley was held in the hospital for 10 hours to increase his oxygen levels.
“I understand how quickly things could go downhill,” said Daley. “I was anxious about being put on a ventilator and my time was up. I was really scared. “
Daley also said he was concerned about what would happen to Robbie if he and Black contracted the virus.
Daley is promoting his upcoming book Coming Up for Air: What I Learned from Sport, Fame and Fatherhood. The book is out on October 14th.
