Paradox is canceling several unannounced games in order to focus on “proven gaming niches”

Paradox just canceled several games that you’ve never heard of. The publisher has announced to investors that it will “put several unannounced games” on the chopping block in order to “concentrate resources and know-how on its proven gaming niches and projects that better meet the company’s risk and return requirements”.

The company has written off the value of these projects to around SEK 135 million – or just over $ 15 million. Paradox has 15 games remaining in development, including Victoria 3, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, and console versions of Crusader Kings 3 and Shadowrun Trilogy. The remaining unannounced projects include a mix of original games and sequels.

“Paradox Interactive was born and raised with strategy and management games,” says CEO Fredrik Wester in a press release. “This is where our hearts and minds are and we are passionate about making games that our players can enjoy over a long period of time. We have therefore further refined our pipeline to ensure that the projects with the highest potential have the necessary resources for the best possible development. “

Wester recently returned as Paradox CEO after Ebba Ljungerud left the position due to “differing views on the company’s strategy”. Shortly after his return to the position, Wester apologized for “inappropriate behavior” towards an employee at a meeting in 2018. A month ago, a survey found that more than two-thirds of women at Paradox in the company were exposed to gender-based discrimination.
