Windows 11 is introducing a redesigned Paint app ahead of its official release

In less than a week leading up to October 5th, the official release date of Windows 11, Microsoft rolled out the modernized Paint app for Windows Insiders on the Dev Channel.

It’s been redesigned to match the revamped Windows 11 user interface (UI), with components like the toolbar being painted over with more of the Microsoft Fluent Design system, which informed the updated Paint app icon as well as rounded edges on the window.

Users can download the Paint app, which no longer comes with the operating system itself. The classic Paint app was on the verge of being hacked and replaced with Paint 3D just a few years ago, but Microsoft has also removed Paint 3D from the apps and reinstallations of Windows 11 pre-installed on new devices.

The redesigned app has rounded corners in the window and new Fluent toolbar designs, a rounded color palette, new drop-down menus for paint creation and editing tools, and a simplified toolbar.

The new “A” icon on the toolbar next to the Paint Fill icon makes it easy for Paint users to add text to their creations.

Other upcoming additions to Paint’s pipeline include a dark theme, centered canvas, and updated dialogs that will be updated soon.

Microsoft Chief Product Officer Panos Panay teased Paint’s new dark theme in August, saying Paint had been “beautifully redesigned”.

Paint isn’t the only app redesigned for Windows 11. Several that come with Windows 11 preinstalled, like the Calculator app and the built-in Mail and Calendar Windows apps, have been updated, including rounded corners.

Skype will not be preinstalled on the new Windows 11 either. However, it has also been visually revised. It was included in Windows 10 by default. Microsoft seems to be more focused on consumer and business teams these days.
