Liz Cheney claims Republicans privately encouraged her to keep attacking Trump

The Political Insider

MP Liz Cheney claimed in an interview with “60 Minutes” that Republican lawmakers are secretly cheering their efforts to attack former President Donald Trump.

“Let Congressmen, Republicans, come to you privately and whisper in your ear, ‘Hello Liz’ and encourage you, but don’t come forward and say that publicly?” Interviewer Leslie Stahl asked the Congresswoman.

“Yes,” Cheney replied.

She went on to claim that “many” GOP lawmakers cheered her on “in both the House and Senate.”

The Wyoming Republican, who currently serves on the Democrat-led Special Committee to Investigate the Uprising at the Capitol, suggested that the Republicans who privately support them are not acting for political reasons.

“The limit that cannot be crossed is what is after [2020] Election, ”said Congresswoman Liz Cheney of her decision to speak openly against Donald Trump, whom she supported during his 2016 campaign and for most of his presidency.

That should be music to Trump’s ears.

“The argument you often hear is that if you do something that is perceived to be against Trump, you are putting yourself in political danger.

“And that is a self-fulfilling prophecy,” she added, “because if the Republican leaders don’t stand up and condemn what happened then, the voices in the party, which are so dangerous, will only get louder and stronger . “

Cheney was delighted with her role on the January 6th special committee, although a Reuters report in August indicated that the FBI found little evidence that the Capitol riot was a coordinated attack by the pro-Trump crowd.

“The FBI has found little evidence that the January 6 attack on the US Capitol was the result of an organized conspiracy to overturn the results of the presidential election, according to four current and former law enforcement officers,” wrote Reuters.

Congresswoman Liz Cheney has condemned minority leader Kevin McCarthy for telling Donald Trump after the attack on the Capitol on the 6th. “If I did what he does, I would be deeply ashamed,” says Cheney.

Supports same-sex marriages

Liz Cheney also made headlines from her “60 Minutes” interview saying it was wrong ever to speak out against same-sex marriage, quoting her sister Mary.

“I was wrong. I was wrong. I love my sister very much. I love her family very much,” she said. “It is a very personal topic and very personal for my family. I think my father was right. And my sister and I had this conversation. “

“One vote against me in this race, one vote for everyone Donald Trump has supported, is a vote for … someone who is ready to put Trump above allegiance to the Constitution,” said Congresswoman Liz Cheney of her race in the Constitution House of Representatives 2022.

News surfaced last week that George Bush and Karl Rove were leading a Texas fundraiser for Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY).

Trump issued a statement stating that he didn’t particularly like the decision.

“Former President of RINO, George ‘Dubya’ Bush, and his sloppy Karl Rove advocate warmongering and very low poll numbers, Liz Cheney,” he said.

One funny factoid from the Liz Cheney 60 Minutes thing is that Dick Cheney stood up for same-sex marriage before Barack Obama or Joe Biden or Hillary Clinton. The media didn’t care. I have no problem with Liz Cheney’s stance on Trump, but it can be used by the same people.

Earlier this month, Trump announced his official support for Wyoming attorney Harriet Hageman in her main bid against Cheney.

Trump said Hageman is “strong on crime and borders, strongly supports the Second Amendment, loves our military and veterinarians, and will fight for the integrity of the elections.”

In response to the confirmation, Cheney tweeted, “Bring it.”

Hageman will face significant notoriety and fundraising hurdles if she is to oust Cheney.

Here’s a sound bit for you: bring it with you.

Cheney has sided with the Democrats many times in her description of the events of the Capitol Rising.

She has accused Trump voters of believing “the big lie” – a real talking point among Democrats – that the 2020 presidential election was stolen, and vowed to prosecute him “every day of the week.”

In a comment for the Washington Post, Cheney encouraged Republicans not to embrace Trump’s “personality cult”.
