Singer-songwriter Mickey Guyton will receive the special “Breakout Artist of the Year” award as part of the CMT Artist of the Year, which will be broadcast live on October 13, reports Variety.com.
The only times the network has previously praised was when it was bestowed on Chris Stapleton in 2015, Kelsea Ballerini in 2016, and Ashley McBryde two years ago.
Guyton’s debut album “Remember Her Name” is only out this Friday, Guyton has been releasing singles and EPs for more than six years with great acclaim and media attention – as the network is known, after she premiered her first music video ‘Better Than You Left Me’ in the video January 2015.
One of Guyton’s champions on the network is Leslie Fram, Senior VP of Music and Talent, who was instrumental in naming the singer in CMT’s Next Women of Country class in 2014 before her first major label single came out. When Fram was honored with the 2017 Innovation in Music Awards, she used her acceptance speech to bring Guyton on stage to introduce her to those in attendance – at the time, Guyton was singing Coldplay’s “Yellow” in honor of Fram’s alternative rock radio roots .
“After years of tirelessly pursuing her country music dreams, her tenacity, tenacity, and spirit culminate in this spectacular moment of recognition when she finally gets the recognition she deserves,” said Fram.
Guyton recently became the first black solo artist in history to receive a country Grammy nomination for her single, “Black Like Me,” which she sang on Grammy Show earlier this year. She is currently the new Artist of the Year at the CMA Awards in November.
At CMT, Guyton was a key player in this summer’s CMT Video Music Awards, performing twice and presenting a Lifetime Achievement Award to Linda Martell, a pioneer of black country artist. She also co-hosted the recent Academy of Country Music Awards with Keith Urban.
