Anderson Cooperis deceased mother Gloria Vanderbilt was forthcoming in ways that most mothers may not be.
On Thursday, September 23rd, Anderson was on The Late Show, where he told the host a never-before-told story about his fashion designer mom Stephen Colbert. Gloria, a member of the wealthy Vanderbilt family who named Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, died in 2019 at the age of 95.
Anderson, who opened his story by sharing that his mother was “kind of crazy,” went on to explain that 10 years before her death, then 85-year-old Gloria was making a serious attempt to convince her son to let her carry a child for him. The CNN host, who was not a parent at the time, finally welcomed his first child, son Wyatt, with a surrogate mother in April 2020.
According to Anderson, his mother had seen a gynecologist at the time, who told her that she could still carry a child. When Anderson was concerned it meant she wanted another child herself, Gloria assured him that she did not.
