In the latest update to Stellaris, the robots come to eat you

There is a new patch for the big strategy game Stellaris, which is making some updates based on reports from the community, as the big 3.1 update “Lem” has arrived in orbit. There are some welcome tweaks such as added clarity to the tooltip about the origin of the clone army and a bug fix for a crash when clone armies released vassals and caused an “invalid species”. But perhaps the most important news can be found in the patch notes under the heading “Known Issues”: Robots come to eat you.

One of the remaining issues that the Stellaris team at Paradox is addressing is the fact that apparently machine empires (introduced in Synthetic Dawn DLC) can spawn with the necrophage trait. Necrophage species reproduce by consuming other populations, so it seems like the next time you start the game you might be looking at the prospect of a space civilization from Five Nights at Freddy’s monsters.

Machine empires are usually made up of self-replicating, networked drones. Now it seems like they may lose the ability to repair and replace themselves and need the flesh of organic life forms to reproduce.

So yes, the robots are coming to eat you.

However, there is good news: the update also includes some additional fixes and optimizations. For example, age-old clone vats can now only spawn clone soldier pops. You will receive the standard -50% production penalty (on alloy production) if you run into a food shortage while using Catalytic Processing, and you can now use your Science Vessel to blow up systems during the Elder One event.

Just watch out for the carnivorous robots, okay?
