Timothy Chalamet and Zendaya’s epic sci-fi dune is causing quite a stir for all the right reasons. The direction by Denis Villeneuve had its world premiere on Friday at the Venice Film Festival and was praised with the longest applause of all time. Villeneuve has meanwhile expressed its interest in launching Dune 2 as early as 2022.

For the inexperienced, Dune is only half a story; The Blade Runner 2049 filmmaker will follow in the footsteps of Peter Jackson’s approach to Lord of the Rings, which has had multiple films. The film is the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s groundbreaking bestseller of the same name from 1965.

In a roundtable interview with IGN, Denis Villeneuve spoke about his plans for Dune 2 and said, “I would be very willing to go pretty fast. To get into a movie this size quickly, you still need to do sets and costumes, so we’re talking months. But if there is ever enthusiasm and sooner or later the film gets the green light, I will say that I will definitely be ready to shoot in 2022. “

Villeneuve added, “I’m ready to go and I would say I would like to get it on screen as soon as possible. With the first film (Dune), I really had time to make sure it was exactly how I wanted it to be. I would love to have the same feeling when I do the second part. That would be the priority. Quality will have priority. “

In another interview, the filmmaker said he had full faith in his vision and stated, “It would take a really bad box office score to avoid Dune Part Two.”

Regarding Timothy Chalamet and Zendaya’s character in Dune 2, Villeneuve claimed that the Euphoria actress character would emerge as the female protagonist, while Chalamets Paul Atreides will remain the focus in the next part.

Dune is directed by Denis Villeneuve and the script, which he wrote with Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth, is based on the novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. The film hits theaters on October 22nd and on HBO Max.
