Luigi’s Mansion is now Mario’s Mansion thanks to a ROM hack

Modders have been making the world of PC gaming a better place for decades, and they have made the world of console gaming just as cool while playing PC. A new ROM hack for Luigi’s Mansion is here that does what every modder is expected to do – it turns the game into Mario’s Mansion.

It’s a full conversion that Mario trades in for Luigi’s character model and captures Luigi in the prison painting. It properly replaces dialogue text to refer to Mario, and swaps out all of Luigi’s voice clips for Mario samples. It even swaps out small details like star colors, dialogue symbols, and more to make the transition look seamless.

You can pick up the hack on courtesy of the modder Nintendo 64 Wizard, although of course you’ll need to provide your own copy of the original game for it to work. It only works on emulators, not original hardware, so you’ll need to use something like Dolphin to play it.

The emulation continues to work wonders on old games no matter what platform they were originally released on.
