The Genshin Impact event asks players to call KFC staff for pins

Genshin Impact is huge – huge enough to get the fast food ad treatment. Chinese KFC locations offer a variety of Genshin Impact-related extras when purchased, including pins featuring the RPG game’s Noelle and Diluc. However, to get a pen you have to yell at unhappy KFC employees, and well, things get weird.

The promotion has been going on for a while and the in-game bonuses (like a one-of-a-kind glider that will eventually be available worldwide) were reason enough to grab an extra chicken. But this weekend the promotion also includes a pair of collectible pins, and players are already lining up to be the first to receive them.

The lines have apparently grown so large that police were called in to break up the crowd in accordance with ongoing COVID restrictions. And now, this picture of a Noelle-Standee being carried away under the blinking lights of a police siren will haunt me until the day I die.

Daniel Ahmad, Asian games market analyst, explains on Twitter: β€œTo get the Diluc and Noelle pins on KFC, you need to go to a KFC representative in the store and say out loud,β€œ Meet in another world , enjoy delicious food ”. Then you get the pin to eat. “

So many people were in attendance at some KFCs that police were called in Shanghai and Hangzhou and the crowd was dispersed due to pandemic prevention regulations.

Although it should be noted, there is hardly a case in China these days.

Some players jumped the gun when they got the pins but still take the “say out loud” part very seriously.

Very seriously.

I think I’m going to throw in this bonus video from a web where everyone is waiting in line and saying, “meet in another world, enjoy delicious food”. This is the line you need to say to the KFC representative to receive the pin badge.

This is not the first time that KFC China has taken part in gaming promotions. Do you remember FFXIV’s Black Fat Chocobo? Fried chicken and online gaming are a hell of a good combination.
