New speed run technology brings the Skyrim glitchless world record under 73 minutes

Skyrim is a big game, but Speedrunners have made it look small for years, and it seems like there is more to explore. Skyrim speed runners have pioneered a new technique that has managed to cut a full minute of glitch-free main story quest running, and it is bringing new life to a category that had previously held world records for almost a year.

The world record of the trouble-free main quest in Skyrim has dropped to 1:12:15 thanks to Runner Nucular (as discovered by TheGamer). Until recently, Nucular held that world record at 1:14:07, but there is new technology in the air, as the follower TODDs_Telemedien demonstrated, that has opened up new possibilities for the category.

Basically, it depends on the A Cornered Rat quest where you go into the Rift Sewers to meet up with Esbers. With a bit of skill and luck, you can get an angry security guard to follow you to this meeting so that when you are done with it, he can take you straight to jail. This effectively acts as a teleport from the sewers so you don’t have to bother leaving the area and cut the escape route for over a minute.

Check out the current world record run below.

I look forward to telling you all about the new speedruns in the days following the Elder Scrolls 6 release date.
