Shows that every successor fan should pay attention

“Succession” and “arrested development” have a lot in common. Both shows are about large, rich, dysfunctional families involved in seedy business. The Bluth family and the Roy family, who both intrigue, argue and stab each other in the back for their own benefit, are two sides of the same coin: “Succession” feels like the drama equivalent of the comedy-focused “Arrested” Development “(although” succession “itself is often ridiculously funny).

While the Netflix revival of “Arrested Development” isn’t entirely without exhilaration, the show is by far its strongest in its first three seasons. The writing style is tight, packing more jokes into a single episode than most comedies successfully manage. Arrested Development, even more so than the vast majority of sitcoms, rewards repetitive viewing. There are dozens of clever recalls and background jokes that might be overlooked the first time around, and even hidden innuendos that only make sense in retrospect. An incredible cast of Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Jeffrey Tambor, Tony Hale, Will Arnett, Portia de Rossi, Alia Shawkat, David Cross and Jessica Walter make sure that the best episodes of “Arrested Development” are hilarious.
