The second season of “Lord of the Rings,” which made international headlines when streaming player Amazon Prime Videos moved filming locations from New Zealand to the UK, has set its first filming locations.

The move, which came as a big surprise to the New Zealand production sector, is particularly momentous as the move in the UK marks the first time any of the modern day live action “Lord of the Rings” projects has been produced outside of New Zealand, including Zealand the ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy, reports

Sources close to production say Bray Film Studios and Bovingdon Airfield will be the first big budget production facilities for filming the series.

Pre-production is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2022.

Bray Film Studios, based in Maidenhead, west of London, has nearly 54,000 square feet and a 183,000 square foot backlot.

“Mamma Mia” and “Rocketman” are among the productions that the studio used, as well as the series “Bodyguard” and “Dracula”.

As is to be expected for such an extensive production, further locations for ‘Lord of the Rings’ are being sought in good time.

Amazon confirmed earlier this year that Season 1 will appear on Streamer worldwide on September 2, 2022, with weekly episodes.

The show was picked up for several seasons when it was first ordered in 2017.

Amazon is closely monitoring the details of the series’ storyline, including the official title.

All that is known is that the show takes place in what is known as the Second Age, thousands of years before the events of the two books “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit”.

The series follows an ensemble of familiar and new characters who face the long-feared reappearance of evil in Middle-earth. Cast are Sir Lenny Henry, Morfydd Clark, Peter Mullan, Joseph Mawle and Robert Aramayo.
