Hollywood stars gather to fight for the crew members who become “like family” as they bring their TV shows and movies to life.
Kerry Washington, Mandy Moore, Joshua Jackson, Sarah Paulson, Susan Sarandon and more stars speak out for IATSE. The organization known as “The Union Behind Entertainment” seeks better conditions for 60,000 employees behind the scenes in theater, television and film productions, from cameramen to costume designers.
IATSE said it had spent months negotiating deals with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), but announced on Sept. 21 that the producers group “has no intention of making a counter offer” to IATSE’s latest proposal. In a press release posted on social media, IATSE said the AMPTP “did not work with us” to address the “worst” problems in their workplaces.
The union calls for a change when it comes to excessively unsafe and harmful working hours; unaffordable wages for the least paid crafts; “Consistent failure” to provide adequate rest during meal breaks, on weekends and beyond; and workers on some streaming projects are paid less than traditional blockbusters, even on larger budget productions.
