Warner Bros. has hired Keegan-Michael Key for his upcoming film Wonka, which will serve as the origin story for Willy Wonka, the main character in Roald Dahl’s famous children’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The film ‘Wonka’ examines the upbringing of the man who later in life creates a candy wonderland, before Charlie, the golden tickets and the enchanted factory full of candy and wonder.

According to Variety, Keegan-Michael Key will appear in the film alongside Timothée Chalamet. While Timothée is ready to portray the title role of Willy Wonka, details of Keegan’s role and the overall storyline are still under wraps. By now, it’s safe to say that the story takes place before the world-famous factory was even on Wonka’s radar.

With Keegan Michael-Key scheduled to join the cast in Wonka, we walk down the lane and know that Roald’s sugar-coated children’s book from 1964 was the subject of various large adaptations. Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp both summed up the bizarre chocolatier in the classic from 1971 and the Tim Burton take from 2005.
