Cocoon by Sealy mattresses are good for:

  • People who like memory foam
  • Hot sleepers on a budget
  • People who like firmer beds

  • free shipping and returns
  • 100 night trial period
  • 10 year guarantee
  • made in the United States

The bed-in-a-box industry has really picked up speed in recent years, partly because of the great value proposition that mattress manufacturers are offering direct to consumers (DTC). Sealy and Casper’s Cocoon are no exception.

Both companies offer free shipping, a 100-night risk-free trial, and free returns.

Yes, that means the mattress will be delivered to your home in a somewhat small box within a few days. No more shopping in multiple stationary retail stores and loading mattresses yourself.

Then you have 100 nights to try out the mattress. If after the second night or 98th night you don’t like it, give Sealy or Casper a call and they will refund your money and collect the mattress for free.

In addition, both companies offer a 10-year guarantee on their mattresses. Needless to say, Sealy and Casper try to make it as easy as possible for consumers to try out their mattresses because they are so confident that you will love their product.

And it’s hard to argue. Both mattresses are pretty great, but they are slightly different. Let’s get to those bed-in-a-box mattress reviews.

Cocoon by Sealy mattress overview

Sealy isn’t new to the mattress game. It is one of the most established and well-known brands in the industry.

However, Sealy is new to the DTC, bed-in-a-box industry. Sealy launched its first bed in a box, Cocoon, in 2016 and it took off quickly.

The Cocoon line includes two different mattresses. You have the Cocoon Classic, which is the basic mattress, and the Cocoon Chill, which dissipates heat better.

Sealy also gives you the option of customizing each mattress. You can choose between a soft or firm grip. For the purposes of this review, however, we’re referring to the medium-soft model Cocoon Chill, so keep that in mind.

Cocoon mattress construction

The cocoon mattress consists of three layers of foam. You have the lower layer, which is super resilient and gives the mattress its support. Next you have what Sealy calls the “Comfort Layer”.

Basically, if you go for the soft version, it will feel more “in bed” than “on the bed” if you go for the fixed model.

This is followed by a layer of high quality memory foam that adapts to the size and shape of your body. The end result is a super comfortable memory foam feeling.

But if you’ve ever slept on a traditional memory foam mattress, you have probably noticed that the physical properties of some memory foam materials mean that you can get quite hot in the middle of the night.

Well, this is where the “chill” in Cocoon Chill comes into play. The Cocoon Chill mattress has a stretch knit cover that is supposedly fortified with proprietary phase change material.

That’s a lot of fancy words to say that the cover is able to absorb and dissipate heat. And it definitely works pretty well.

The Cocoon Chill was one of the coolest, if not the coolest, sleeping mattress we tested. We actually thought something was wrong because the cover felt almost wet when we unpacked the mattress – pretty crazy.

This is one department where Cocoon Casper is definitely one step ahead. Casper is by no means bad. We just think that the Cocoon Chill mattress regulates the heat a little better.

Cocoon mattress firmness, movement transfer and overall feeling

We give the Cocoon Chill Soft 5.5 out of 10 points on our hardness scale: 1 like lying on a 12-year-old pillow and 10 rock-hard.

With a score like this, of course, we think it offers a pretty good balance between being soft and quite a bit of support at the same time.

It’s a little firmer than Casper, but not by much. Now we’ve tested the soft model, so our best guess would be that the fixed model would land on our scale between 6 and 6.5 – which would be closer to bear mattress.

We thought Cocoon was perfect for combination sleepers – basically anyone who alternates between back, side and stomach sleep at night. It’s soft enough for side sleepers but firm enough for back and stomach sleepers.

However, if you only sleep on your side, you can consider Casper versus Cocoon, as Casper is a little softer.

When it comes to transferring motion, the Sealy Cocoon mattress does quite well. In fact, it was one of the best mattresses we tested.

We put a beer can by the end of the bed and started jumping onto the other end like our favorite soccer team had just won the Super Bowl. The can was not at all alarmed.

So if your partner is rolling around pretty much in the middle of the night, you don’t have to worry about waking up.

Cocoon by Sealy Price

Cocoon mattresses are pretty cheap compared to the rest of the industry.

The Cocoon Classic is the cheapest of the three different mattresses. Prices for the classic model range from $ 399 for a Twin to $ 999 for a King. The Cocoon Chill is a bit more expensive, with prices of:

The good news is that Sealy is one of the mattress manufacturers that offers discounts and coupon codes quite often. In fact, you can right now $ 100 off any mattress with the code RIZKNOWS.

If we had a choice, we’d have to go for the Chill model over the Classic model just because we like its cooling capabilities so much. Anyway, it’s hard to criticize either of the two Cocoon mattresses.

They offer a good balance between comfort and stability. They are moderately priced and the chill model is great for regulating heat.

In terms of the Cocoon by Sealy vs. Casper decision, it’s a tough one to make. As you will see in a moment, every mattress has a lot going for it.

At the end of the day, it just depends on which features and features you like better, because both mattresses are almost the same in price.

If you like it a little more supportive and staying cool while sleeping is a main concern, you can hardly ignore the Cocoon Chill.

Casper mattresses are good for:

  • People who are looking for a comfortable, affordable mattress
  • anyone interested in a bed-in-a-box mattress

  • free shipping and returns
  • 100 night trial period
  • 10 year guarantee
  • made in the United States

Casper mattress rating overview

If you’re reading this, you probably don’t need an introduction to Casper. You’ve probably heard the name before. Casper didn’t invent the bed-in-a-box concept, but it certainly helped put the industry in the spotlight.

It was one of the first DTC mattress companies to gain national attention, and as a result, it grew into a company of over $ 100 million almost overnight.

Casper mattress construction

Like the Cocoon mattress, the Casper mattress is made up of different layers of foam. Casper only has one shift left. It starts with a 5 inch underlayer to support the bed.

Next up is a layer of zoned support foam, followed by a layer of responsive memory foam. And finally a layer of open-cell foam.

Allegedly, the top layer uses convection and conduction to move heat away from your body. To be honest, that’s a bit too much science for me. I’ll say the Casper mattress is pretty good at regulating heat.

SPECIAL OFFER: $ 200 off select Casper mattresses with the code RIZKNOWS

I never woke up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat or anything, I would just say the Cocoon Chill has an easy leg up here. Then to wrap it all up (literally) is a woven cover that you can zip off, but Casper recommends spot cleaning it instead of machine washing it.

Casper strength, responsiveness and transmission of motion

As already mentioned, the Casper mattress is slightly below Cocoon on the hardness scale. We give the mattress 4.75 to 5.75 out of 10, which means that it offers a perfect balance between softness and comfort while providing the necessary support for your body.

It’s a really nice mix. Casper definitely figured this out out. Once you lie down, all you want to do is take a nap or watch Netflix.

Note: Sitting or standing in a certain spot will compress the mattress a bit, but once you lie down and spread your body it does a good job of weighing your heavier body parts and providing the amount of support you need.

In addition, Casper is pretty much the quintessential mattress for combination sleepers and side sleepers. If you roll around a lot in your sleep and end up on your back, side and stomach at some point during the night, Casper is a really good mattress for you.

If you sleep mostly on your back and stomach, you can consider a firmer mattress, but Casper will be fine. If you’re heavier in body weight, Casper probably isn’t your best option just because it’s pretty soft. In this case, Cocoon might be a better option.

The transmission of motion is also pretty good with Casper. It also passed our beer test with flying colors, so no need to worry if your partner moves around a lot while sleeping.

Casper mattress price and coupon code

Casper mattresses are priced a little higher than the Cocoon Chill. Prices range from $ 595 for a twin room to $ 1,295 for a king bed.

However, like Sealy, sometimes you can find a Casper Mattress Coupon Code or a Casper Mattress Coupon Code to save an additional $ 50 or so from your purchase. Now you can Use code RIZKNOWS for $ 200 off.

The Casper mattress is without a doubt a solid choice. The company would not be where it is today if the product did not meet expectations. The mattress is very comfortable and will keep you pretty cool.

With regard to Cocoon Chill, I already indicated above why you would choose one. In Casper’s case, if you like a slightly softer feel, I think Casper is the way to go.

I think you’d really like the way the top foam layer conforms to your body and offers a little bounce. Since they are both roughly the same price, you really can’t go wrong either way. Now grab some Zzz’s.
