Agent 64 is said to be a new GoldenEye, and there is a free demo on Steam

Despite the lack of mouse targets – or even two analog controllers aside from that particular option – GoldenEye became a real classic in the Nintendo 64 library, defining a subgenre of first-person shooters that never really survived the ages. Now there’s an indie game designed to bring back the old school spirit and you can play it right now.

Agent 64: Spies Never Die makes no secret of its inspirations, because developer Replicant D6 describes it as “retro FPS, inspired by classic British shooters like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and TimeSplitters”. It’s single player only, so don’t expect the old split-screen matches that you might be nostalgic for, but you can expect open-ended story missions with a variety of objectives to complete, all typically rare-style.

You can visit the Steam page to play a demo just in time for Steam Next Fest, which features a mission with three difficulty options. Each difficulty adds new goals that you must complete as expected. The game should appear in Early Access this year.
