CNN host Chris Cuomo spoke out Thursday night to respond to a New York Times story that former President Donald Trump had the Justice Department Submit Apple for data from Democratic lawmakers, aides, and family members, including Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who was his guest for the night. Cuomo went so far as to say that Trump’s Justice Department “Watergate looks like jaywalking.”

Cuomo attacks Trump’s DOJ

“Such a big part of Trump’s pull was that he would go and disturb the mess,” Cuomo told Schiff. “He wanted to go in there and disturb the ugliness and the deep state stuff. The DOJ was used as muscle power to silence people who followed the President’s conduct. I mean, I can’t imagine – it literally makes Watergate look like jaywalking. “

“I never expected so many people in the developing world in this country to think that they could be examined by unscrupulous executives just because they wanted to,” Schiff replied. “And that’s such a terrible turn for this country. We have to put in place stronger guard rails so that something like this never happens again. “

“This is exactly what people thought Trump would change what is something of a deep state by setting up a state institution to investigate you for evidence against you, rather than evidence to fuel an investigation,” added Cuomo. “It’s exactly what they thought he was going to change, and he was the ugliest example of the problem I’ve ever seen.”

Ship calls for investigation

In the same interview, Schiff requested a Justice Department investigation from Trump.

“I think there needs to be an internal investigation within the Justice Department,” he said. “Not just this abuse of power over our committee, but what they did to reporters and press organizations, the attorney general’s intervention in certain cases like Roger Stone and Mike Flynn and others.”

“In Mike Flynn’s case, that person pleaded guilty twice,” added Schiff. “Bill Barr took the extraordinary step of moving this case to be dismissed. The judge in this case appointed someone to defend someone against the Ministry of Justice. “

“It just doesn’t happen very often, if at all,” he concluded. “I think the department really needs to clean up the house and look at all of these types of abuse and take corrective action and implement new policies to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
