The OSA therapy on Signifier’s day wins the 2020 GOOD DESIGN Award

Signifier Medical Technologies’ eXciteOSA, the first and only intraoral neuromuscular stimulation device for the treatment of mild obstructive sleep apnea and snoring during the day, received the GOOD DESIGN Award in the Medical category. The device was recently approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.

The GOOD DESIGN Award is presented by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Center for Architecture, Art Design and Urban Research. Every year since 1950 the Chicago Athenaeum has awarded the prize for industrial, product and graphic designs produced worldwide. With 30 award categories in different industries, the GOOD DESIGN Award was established to create awareness of contemporary design and to honor both products and industry leaders in design and manufacturing who pioneered new avenues for innovation and set the framework for competitive products in the world have marketplace.

Unlike devices used by patients while they sleep, the eXciteOSA is the first device to be used while awake and designed to improve tongue muscle function to help identify the causes of these disorders. Therapy is applied 20 minutes a day for six weeks and then twice a week. It has been clinically proven to improve the quality of sleep by significantly reducing obstructive sleep apnea and snoring.

Signifier Medical Technologies has developed a digital OSA therapy interface for patients and doctors that includes an app for use alongside the eXciteOSA device. The app was developed to ensure personalized care and to motivate patients to achieve a high level of therapy compliance. The eXciteOSA system is a “light touch design” that does not require any adjustment. It includes digital connectivity between patient, bed partner and provider to enable virtual setup and remote monitoring.
