The sixth year marks the first full year of the revised annual content plan for Rainbow Six Siege. As advertised, it is full of quality of life changes and core functionality revisions. There are four new operators, some map revisions, and a lot of events promised in the official roadmap – just enough new toys to keep things fresh from season to season – but what’s missing from this roadmap is Ubisoft’s plan to make the way and way of fundamentally changing each round plays off.
During the sixth year, Ubisoft announced its intention to reduce downtime in Rainbow Six Siege games by giving attackers more work to do during the prep phase and allowing eliminated players to contribute directly to the outcome of a round. In addition, in Year 6 Mira, Maestro and Goyo will be revised, health and armor made more transparent and the game generally rebalanced so that attacks feel as sustainable as defending.

We’ll start with the headline changes that will come with the release date of Operation Crimson Heist from Flores to Gonne-6 Secondary School and then move on to the 6th year roadmap and some of the gameplay changes that Ubisoft is working on.
In the first season of the sixth year, Operation Crimson Heist, the Argentine attacker Flores is introduced, a medium-speed attacker with four special drones that are loaded with explosives. Flores has ten seconds to get each RCE Ratero drone into position. Then the drone anchors itself in its location, becomes bulletproof and explodes after a few more seconds. Each explosion appears to have an explosion radius similar to that of a nitro cell, but defenders receive numerous warnings to leave the area thanks to an audible siren that sounds when the drone is anchored.
Flores can manually trigger the anchoring phase of any drone at any point during the countdown. When you activate this air, the drone will anchor the next surface it touches. This allows you to “cook” the drone a little if dropped from a great height, giving the defenders less time to react. Ultimately, the drones are useful for opening hatches and destroying devices like shields and Maestro cameras rather than killing enemies.
Flores can choose either the AR33 or the SR-25 as its main weapon, but only the GSh-18 as its sidearm. Finally, he chooses secondary devices between stun grenades and a claymore.
Flores arrives with a makeover of the popular Border card that was recently removed from competitive play because it was stale. The revision is similar in scale to the clubhouse revision, retaining the identity of the map, its key locations, and the flow.
What’s new? Bathroom and Cashier is now a viable target with a massively expanded bathroom and less room for vertical gaming. The waiting room now has an inner balcony that connects the break room with the east staircase. The archive was opened, which greatly facilitates the defense against a north balcony and a vehicle recording. There are a lot more minor tweaks, but it’s also worth noting that the map is now a lot cleaner, with less debris and clutter obscuring the lines of sight – hopefully this means you don’t have to die of bizarre pixel peeks.
Gonne-6 and match repetitions
Y6S1 also adds a new attacker secondary weapon, the Gonne-6, a single shot weapon that can destroy defender gadgets, and the anticipated game replay system for PC gamers. Ubisoft says it is not yet available to console gamers as it is still in beta.
Operator and 6th grade cards
While much less is known about the rest of the sixth year, we do know that the operator of the second season is from Nakoda, an indigenous people of the Great Plains. This operator is accompanied by a casual favela makeover. In the third season we get a Croatian operator and three smaller map fans instead of a major overhaul. Finally, Siege gets an Irish operator in season four as well as a makeover of Outback.
Operator revisions are also promised, all of which are aimed at utility based defenders. Goyo loses his shields exploding. These are replaced by a similar explosive device, which, similar to Jäger’s ADS, can be mounted on the floor or on walls. Like the previous design, these have a metal case that gives them approximately 270 degrees of protection.

Mira and Maestro are both being overhauled, which affects their ability to provide information. The plan is that attackers who are able to use these devices in close combat will break the glass and obstruct the defenders’ vision. Mira and Maestro would then have to open their respective devices in order to make them useful again, or simply forego the utility. Melusi’s device is also shredded. When you trigger a banshee it will open and you can shoot and destroy it.
Few details were given, but the panel also mentions revisions for Fuze and Finka. Fuzes gadget will be more useful and Finka will be able to revive herself with a nanoboost.
Bulletproof cam revision
Bulletproof cameras now have full rotation and an EMP arrow they can fire to disable attacker gadgets and drones. An early version should be available on the Y6S2 test server.
One of the main goals for the sixth year is to reduce downtime. Ubisoft wants to achieve this through two changes. The first, called the “attacker repick”, allows everyone in the attacking team to change their operator and loadout during the preparation phase so that they can react to the defending team’s setup.
The second option, called “Afterlife Activities”, allows players to use any remote utility after they have been eliminated. It’s not clear if there are any restrictions, but the basic idea is that a dead defender like Castle can jump on Maestro’s camera and start groping an attacker. For an attacker, this would mean controlling your own drone on the map if you have been eliminated and a replacement drone is still in use.
Armor and health
To improve transparency, the armor system is also slightly adjusted so that you can clearly see how much extra health your armor status gives you. A one armor operator still has 100 health, but a two armor has 120 health and a three armor has 140 health. This doesn’t change the number of shots you can take, but it does make the difference between low and high armor more transparent to players.
The last major update is the full introduction of the player behavior system that has been working in the background for several months, albeit in limited capacity. Ubisoft does not go into the details of what actions will affect your ranking, but the reputation system is made up of five levels and players can move the levels up and down based on their actions. At level 0, messages and warnings are displayed about the player’s actions and it can have an impact, such as: B. That it is not possible to queue for ranked matches. At the positive end of the scale, at levels 3 and 4, there are rewards for players, although we don’t know what those rewards will look like.
Streamer mode and menu overhaul
A streamer mode arrives on the test server in Y6S1. In this mode, the player’s region, name, rating, profile picture and other players are hidden in their lobby. This mode also adds a matchmaking delay to prevent queue sniping.
Rainbow Six Siege’s user interface and presentation are also being redesigned, which promises to make the game’s menus faster and easier to navigate. Matchmaking, ranking, and the newcomers’ experience were also touched upon during the panel, but Ubisoft didn’t provide any real details on how to change those parts of Siege.
The sixth year also ends the annual card and folds the new operator into the seasonal battle card at no additional cost. There’s a strange catch: the exclusivity window for accessing new operators is expanded. So if you don’t buy the new Battle Pass, you will have to wait two weeks before you can buy the Operator with R6 Credits or Reputation.
Skins and crossovers
Finally, there are a number of changes to how skins work in the game. Elite skins will be customized soon so you can mix and match parts of an elite skin with other skins you like, including the MVP animation and the gadget skin. Some new partner skins are also being unveiled in year six, including a Zofia skin inspired by Resident Evil’s Jill Valentine, and what appears to be a Rick & Morty collaboration. A new elite skin for Kali also comes with the Y6S1. Finally, Queen of E3 2019 Ikumi Nakamura is working on some cosmetics for sixth year, which is unexpected but very, very cool.
